Johnnie "Big Daddy" Burrell Jr., 89, died April 12, 2011 at Jackson Medical Center.
He was a member of the Mt. Olive No. 1 Baptist Church in Rockville. He was retired from Lone Star Cement Company in Leroy.
Survivors include six sons, Johnny (Ruthie) Burrell III, Warren (Bonnie) Burrell, Clarence (Lela) Burrell, Samuel (Elizabeth) Burrell, Michael Hunt, all of Jackson, Jesse Ray, Mobile; two daughters, Barbara Burrell, Palm Coast, Fla., Ethel Thomas, McIntosh; 19 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; two sisters and one brother, Hattie Jackson, Ida Jackson, Johnny (Annie) Jackson, all of Mobile; several devoted friends, adopted son Jerry Adams, Fred Scruggs, Retha Bettis and Essie Mae Gamble, all of Jackson.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Sally Nettles Burrell; his parents; and one sister, Irene James.
The service was April 16, at the Mt. Olive No. 1 Baptist Church in Rockville with Rev. Kevin Jackson, pastor, as officiating minister. Burial was in the Mt. Olive No. 1 Baptist Church Cemetery. Jackson Memorial Funeral Home directed.
