Helen (Rose) Chapman Calhoun, 58, died April 9, 2011.
She was born May 3, 1952 in Grove Hill to Ernest (E.J.) Chapman and the late Leona Chapman Pugh. She was a 1970 graduate of Wilson Hall High School in Grove Hill. She accepted Christ at an early age and joined St. Luke Baptist Church in Grove Hill. Later she joined (under watch care) Franklin Avenue Baptist Church in New Orleans, Louisiana where she was a dedicated member until her death.
Survivors include a loving and devoted daughter, Latasha Brownlee, a loving grandson, Caleb Brownlee, Theodore, a loving father, Ernest (E.J.) Chapman, two adopted granddaughters, Al’cian and Summer Tobias, Laplace, Louisiana, four brothers, Lewis (Grace) Chapman, Coffeeville, Jerry (Etta) Pugh, Thomasville, Rayfus (Bessie) Pugh, Coffeeville, Terrell (Denise) Pugh, Columbus, S.C.; two sisters, Susie A. Pugh, Pearlene Robinson, both of Grove Hill; a loving step-father, Willie Pugh; two brothersin law, Calvin Jackson, Grove Hill, Frank Calhoun, Mobile; one god-daughter, Kimmie Kidd, Dallas, Texas; and a host of uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends, five devoted, Gertrude O. Ackers, Curtis and Sharon Brown, Tomas (Barbara) Riveria Bell and a former husband, Ralph B. Brownlee.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Leona Chapman, two brothers, Walter J. Chapman, Michael J. Pugh Sr. and a sister, Betsy A. Jackson and a devoted husband, Otis Pugh Calhoun.
The service was April 16 at 12 noon at Mt. Zion #2 Baptist Church in Grove Hill. Burial was in the Orange Hill Cemetery. Small’s Mortuary of Mobile directed.
