Lora Dell English, 82, died April 28, 2011 after a length illness.
She was born June 30, 1928. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Jackson, a loving and devoted wife, mother and an adoring grandmother. Lora loved sports—hunting and fishing with her father and mother; was a cheerleader at Jackson High School; played high school basketball where she excelled as an all-conference player. From that love of sports, she transmitted her sense of fair play to her children. She loved music—playing violin and trumpet at an early age and transmitting that love of music to her children. She loved learning and completed her BA in Social Work at the University of Alabama. She encouraged her children to excel in academics—both of whom are college graduates.
Survivors include her loving husband, Philip G. English Jr.; children, Alison English, Orange, Calif., Thomas (Valerie) English, Saraland, grandchildren, Rachel English, Houston, Texas, Jeffrey English, Tuscaloosa.
She was preceded in death by her loving parents, Clarence and Ione Chastain.
A graveside service was May 1 at 4 p.m. at Trinity Memorial Gardens Cemetery on the Walker Springs Road.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Alabama Baptist Children’s Home, P.O. Box 31767, Birmingham, AL 35236-9860.
