Leonard James Jackson Sr., 77, of Barlow Bend died June 8, 2011 at Providence Hospital in Mobile.
He was born May 29, 1934. He was a native of Gainestown. He moved to Barlow Bend at an early age and united with the James Chapel Baptist Church. He would serve as a chairman of the Trustee Board and as church treasurer.
On July 13, 1957, Mr. Jackson married Australia Williams and the couple would go on to have two sons. He was a member of White Hall Lodge No. 951. He retired from the Clarke County Board of Education where he was employed as a bus driver.
Survivors include his loving and devoted wife of 54 years, Australia Williams Jackson, Barlow Bend; two devoted sons, Calvin (Dora) Jackson, Barlow Bend, Leonard (Valeria) Jackson Jr., Walker Springs; sister, Mary Rivers, Mobile; three grandchildren, Kendrick Jackson,  Jackson, LaKeitha (Renard) Knight, Leonard B. Jackson, both of Mobile; two great-grandchildren, Emily Williams, Mobile, Kiara Jackson, Demopolis; sister-in-law, Irene (Clausell) Stokes, Gainestown; nephew, Philip (Courtney) Rivers, Mobile; nieces, Paula (Jeremy) Jackson, Alandria, Shanavia Rivers, all of Mobile; friends, Bertha and Robert Morrissette, Barlow Bend; cousin, Robert (Annette) Brooks, Mobile; and a host of other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Mattie Jackson and James Jackson, respectively; brother, Allen Jackson; sister, Vera Daniels; grandfather, Leonard Peoples.
The service was June 13 at James Chapel Baptist Church with the Rev. Kevin Boykin, pastor, and officiating minister Rev. Osbry Millender. Burial was in the Union Chapel Cemetery in Barlow Bend. Jackson Memorial Funeral Home directed.
Pallbearers were the Masons of White Hall Lodge No. 951. Flower bearers were L.D. William Price, Order of the Eastern Star No. 730.
