Ruth Ann "Bobbie Jean" Martin, 69, died July 22, 2011 at Mobile Infirmary.
She was born Oct. 20, 1941 in Jackson to Martha Williams and the late Raymond Jackson. She was a member of the Mt. Olive No. 1 Baptist Church in Rockville, where she served in a variety of capacities including Sunday School teacher, choir member and treasurer of the Free Mission District, as well as others, until her health failed.
Survivors include her mother, Martha Lee Williams of Jackson; eight sons, Eddie Lee (Linda Faye) Martin, Johnnie Oneal (Sadie) Martin, Lester Glenn Anderson, Alfred Earl (Janice) Hatfield, Jimmy Earl (Tammy) Martin, Terry Lee (friend, Carlette Johnson) Martin, all of Jackson, Leroy (Hazel) Martin, Montgomery and Ray (Sabrina) Martin, Anniston; her daughter, Diane Chapman, Jackson; brothers, Richard (Catherine) Jackson, Nathanial (Jean) Jackson, Charles Williams, Ben Williams, Archie (Lori Ann) Williams, John Edward (Sharon) Williams, all of Jackson, and David Williams, Gainesville, Fla.; sisters, Bennie Jo Reed, Texas, Retha Mae Kirby, Anniston, Perrie Lee Martin, Susie Lee Williams, Linda Faye (Eddie Lee) Martin, all of Jackson; 32 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Leroy "Red" Martin; father, Raymond Jackson; son, Andrew "Smokey" Martin; brothers, Frankie Lee Jackson, M.C. Jackson, Calvin Williams and Ely Jackson; and sisters, Clara Mae Parker, Carrie Mae Jenkins, Rosie Lee Sims and Ellen Tates.
The service will be Saturday, July 30 at 2 p.m., at Mt. Olive No. 1 Baptist Church in Rockville. Viewing will be Friday, July 29, at Jackson Memorial Funeral Home from 6-8 p.m.; and Saturday, July 30, at the church from 1 p.m. until the funeral hour. The Rev. Kevin Jackson will be the eulogist. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Jackson Memorial Funeral Home will direct.
