James Milford Downey, 75, of Sweet Water died Sept. 2, 2011 in Meridian, Miss.

He was born Jan. 10, 1936 in Sweet Water. He was a member of the Old Union Baptist Church. He was a retired woodyard supervisor with James River Paper Mill Corporation.

Survivors include his wife, Frances Marlene Downey, Sweet Water; one daughter, Debra Darlene Smith, Livingston; one son-in-law, Mark Smith, Livingston; one sister, Modine Goodman, Panama City, Fla.; one grandson, Christopher Smith, Atlanta, Georgia.

The service was Sept. 5 at 2 p.m. at O’Bryant Chapel Funeral Home with Dr. Bobby Hopper officiating. Burial was in the Old Union Baptist Church Cemetery in Sweet Water.

Active pallbearers were Pete Harris, Ed Sheffield, Thad Dunn, Pitman Huckabee, Bill Lockett and Curtis Gates.

Honorary pallbearers were Sid Pope, Jerry Dunn, Kinner Jowers and Bud Black.
