Larson Edge signs copies of his book at Pioneer Day in 2010. Larson Edge signs copies of his book at Pioneer Day in 2010. Larson DeWitt Edge Sr., 76, died September 23, 2011 at a Mobile hospital.

He was a native of Fulton and a longtime resident of Mobile. He was retired from Volkert & Associates. He was also the owner and president of Edge Appraisal Services.

He was a member of the Spring Hill Baptist Church, a Sunday School teacher and a Life Deacon. He also taught a special Sunday School class at Gordon Oaks Retirement Center in Mobile. He coached Spring Hill Little League Youth Baseball for many years.

He was a 1953 graduate of Clarke County High School.

Last year he fulfilled a longtime ambition to write a novel. Alabama Swamp Ghosts: A Novel of the South was a work of fiction but based on his growing up years in Grove Hill and Clarke County. He was working on another book when he died.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Will and Corine Edge and a brother, Olen Edge.

Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Carol Edge; three children, Larry (Amanda) Edge, Billy (Lonya) Edge, Amy ( Tom) Bruce; sister, Thelma Pugh; four grandchildren, Joel and Hanna Kate Bruce, Sydney Grace Edge and Emma Larson Edge, nieces, nephews and other relatives; special caregivers Mary Hafner and Carrie Green; and a very special friend and angel, Pam Smith.

The funeral was held Sept. 26 at 2 p.m. from Spring Hill Baptist Church with visitation prior to the service. Interment was in the Pine Crest West Cemetery.
