Odessa Bryant-Kirkland, 71, of Lower Peach Tree died Sept. 29, 2011 at Camden Nursing Facility.
She was born Oct. 13, 1939. She was a 1961 graduate of Alabama State University and later received her master’s degree from Tennessee State University. She retired from the Wilcox County School system as a teacher for 38 years. She was a loyal and faithful member of the Wilcox County Retired Teachers Association. She was also past president of the Mamie B. Johns Missionary Society and was presently serving as a second vice president. She was a member of St. Thomas AME Church of Lower Peach Tree where she served on the stewardess and trustee boards, church treasurer, YPD Director and a member of the choir.
Survivors include two sons, Randall Kirkland, Brian Kirkland, both of Lower Peach Tree; two brothers, Willie Bryant, Jessie Bryant, both of Chicago, Ill.; three grandchildren and a host of nephews and nieces.
She was preceded in death by her father and mother and husband, Joe Kirkland of Lower Peach Tree.
The service will be Oct. 6 at 11 a.m. with visitation at 9 a.m. at St. Thomas AME Church in Lower Peach Tree with Rev. W.W. Nixon, pastor and officiating minister. Burial will be in the St. Thomas AME Church Cemetery.
