Jane S. Agee, 87, of Pine Hill died Oct. 23, 2011 at her residence.
She graduated with a business administration degree in 1944 from Auburn University where she was a member of Delta Zeta Sorority. She worked at the Oak Ridge Laboratories in Tennessee before returning to her native Pine Hill where she met and married Lawrence Gilmer Agee. In 1954, Mr. and Mrs. Agee purchased Alabama Wholesale Company, Inc., which is still owned by her family in Pine Hill. She was a member of the Pine Hill United Methodist Church which honored her last spring by the dedication of the “Jane and Gilmer Agee Memorial Garden.”
Survivors include one son, William Henry (Lesa) Agee, Sewanee, Tenn.; a daughter, Blanche Agee (Jim) Spinks, Thomasville; three grandsons, Nelson Douglas Agee, St. Petersburg, Fla., Clay Sheffield Agee, Nashville, Tenn.; James Lawrence Spinks, Birmingham; one granddaughter, Jane Kathleen “Katie” Spinks, Richmond, Virginia; her long time caregiver, Sarah Lee Bracket, Pine Hill. The family is especially thankful to Dr. Jane Pearson of Birmingham for her loving medical care of their mother.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Gilmer Agee and a son, Walter Lawrence Agee, Pine Hill.
The family will receive friends at O’Bryant Chapel Funeral Home in Thomasville on Thursday evening, Oct. 27 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. A graveside service is planned for 11:00 a.m. Friday morning, Oct. 28 at the Pine Hill Cemetery with Rev. Dawn Bond officiating.
