Nicholas Phillip “Phil” Smelley, 80, of Whatley died Nov. 2, 2011 at Monroe County Hospital.
He was born Aug. 20, 1931. He was a native of Coker, Ala. He was a member of Amity Baptist Church. He was a veteran of the United States Army and the United States Air Force. He was a meter technician with the City of Moss Point, Miss.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth Ann Smelley, Whatley; one step-son, Tommy (Donna) Phillips, Whatley; one step-daughter, Judy (Douglas) Clarke, Grove Hill; two brothers, James Smelley, Nathan Smelley, both of Moss Point, Miss.; one sister, Virginia Matthews, Tuscaloosa; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren.
The service was Nov. 4 at 2 p.m. at Amity Baptist Church with Rev. Percy Clarke officiating. Burial was in the Amity Baptist Church Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Charles Hicks, Myron Gregory, John Salter, Joseph Salter, Daniel Clarke and Austin Roberts.
