Loyd

Alice Chapman Loyd, 98, died Nov. 21, 2011 at a local health care facility.

She was born Feb. 11, 1913 to the late Lisa Dortch and Willie Allen in Tallahatta Springs. She joined and remained an active and faithful member of the Berry’s Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church until health failed. She was a member of the Lay Council, Home Mission, Women’s Home and Overseas Missionary Society and pastor’s aid board where she housed many preachers and evangelists for a number of years. She was a homemaker for several years prior to her employment with the Clarke County Department of Pensions and Security as a foster parent. During her employment she developed a close bond with community, county and state constituents. She enjoyed cooking for others, gardening and spending time with family and friends, bringing bags of candy to the children at church.

Survivors include one brother, Cleveland Dortch, a host of nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends, extended family, Diane Chapman, Lillian Chapman, Sandra Chapman Dickinson, two dedicated friends, Eloise E. Gill and Saloma B. Lawson.

She was preceded in death by husband, Temus Chapman, husband, McKinley Loyd and a brother, Matthew Davis.

The service was Nov. 23 at 11 a.m. at Berry’s Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church of Winn with Rev. Edward Seabron officiating. Burial was in the Berry’s Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church Cemetery. Small’s Mortuary of Mobile directed.
