Billy Ray Duff, 61, died Feb. 19, 2012.
He was born Oct. 26, 1950. He was the second of five children born to the late Mrs. Bama Ann Duff Pugh.
He attended Clarke County Training School and graduated from Coffeeville High School in 1972, after which he relocated to Detroit, Mich. He married his wife, Mary, Aug. 16, 1975. He returned to Alabama in 1982. He was employed by the Clarke County Commission and Clarke County Sheriff’s Department, working as a reserve officer and volunteered with the Winn Fire Department. He retired Sept. 1, 2011 for health reasons. He was a trustee at Faith Tabernacle Church in Highland Park, Mich., and was ordained as a deacon at Truelight Baptist Church in Kornton. He joined the St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church and was a faithful deacon and choir member.
Friends say, "He was content to live day-by-day, but always with something funny to say."
Survivors include his devoted and loving wife, Mary Duff; three brothers, Arthur Mitchell, Coffeeville, Edward (Tawanda) Duff, Troy Pugh, both of Mobile; one sister, Jessie Gould of Coffeeville; and many other relatives and friends.
The service was Feb. 24 at 11 a.m. at St. Paul Baptist Church with the Rev. Craig Westry, pastor, and officiating minister. Burial was in be in St. Paul Baptist Church Cemetery.
