Gettys E. Parden, 79, died Feb. 21, 2012 after a short illness of Lung Cancer in Elmore Community Hospital in Wetumpka.
He was born Aug. 17, 1932 in Coffeeville. He served two years in the United States Army in Germany, working 30 years as core drill operator with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and retired. He was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 5106 of Thomasville. He enjoyed watching sports on TV, reading the newspaper and working "word search" puzzles.
Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Loxene Parden; brothers and sisters, Luther (Mae) Parden, Grove Hill, Wilbur Gray Parden, Thomasville, Quitman (Betty Laura) Parden, Petal, Miss., Lundy (Pat) Parden, Vero Beach, Fla., Louie Parden, Dorothy (James) Newton, all of Grove Hill, Kay Smalley, Butler, Ruthie Juanice (Allan) Price, Vista, Calif., Evelyn Parden, Birmingham, Faye (Perry) Mooneyham, Birmingham; a host of nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents, H.S. "Jim" Parden and Lillie Parden, brother, Donnie Lee Parden.
Thank you to Dr. Bipin Kumar for the care of Gettys, the nurses and aids at Elmore Community Flospital, the home health nurses from Ivy Creek and also Lake Martin Hospice nurses and ambulance personnel.
The service was Feb. 23 at 1:30 p.m. at Gassett Funeral Home in Wetumpka.
