Mabel McDonald Rush, 89, of Mobile County died April 17, 2012.
She was born Sept. 27, 1922. She was valedictorian of her high school graduating class. She was a charter class graduate of the University of Mobile in 1967. She was a recipient of the J.L. Bedsole Improvement Award. She taught school for 25 years in public and private settings during which time she received her Master of Arts in Education. She was a long-standing member of Knollwood Assembly of God Church.
Survivors include two sons, Neville Q. (Joyce) Rush, Panama City, Fla., Carl A. (Stacy) Rush, Alexandria, Virginia; one brother, Calvin McDonald; two daughters, Nelda R. (Tommy) Woodall, Resaca, Georgia, Sandra R. (Charles) Covington, Longwood, Fla.; five sisters, Marlene Brock, Theda Ertzgard, Fay (Everette) Stephens, Ouida McIntyre, Anna Welsh; 17 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; numerous nephews, nieces and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Quinton W. Rush; a daughter, Dainne R. Cottrell, a grandson, Jeremy M. Cottrell, parents, Carlos and Alice McDonald, four brothers, Fred McDonald, Herman McDonald, Watson McDonald and Alexander McDonald.
Active pallbearers were Ben Cottrell, Seth Cottrell, Charles Covington, Calvin McDonald, Keith Rush, Kenneth Stephens, Randall Woodall.
Honorary pallbearers were Mrs. Rush’s grandchildren.
The service was April 24 at Forest Lawn Funeral Home. Burial was in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens.
