Owen Thomas “O.T.” Armistead, 77, of Grove Hill died May 13, 2012 at Mobile Infirmary.
He was born May 17, 1934. He was a member of Tompkins Baptist Church. He served in the National Guard in Artillery. He was a heavy equipment operator for 35 years with the Alabama Department of Transportation.
Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Lillie Mae Armistead, Grove Hill; one son, Thomas Bryant (Cristi) Armistead, Grove Hill; one daughter, Tonia Armistead Wood, Grove Hill; one brother, Ralph Armistead, Grove Hill; five sisters, Leila Belle Newton, Nettie Craft, Dot Bell, all of Grove Hill, Jewel Baugh, Fairhope, Murle Black, Repton; three grandchildren, Carson Wood, Candace and Zakery Armistead.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Owen B. Armistead and Lena Rivers Armistead and two sisters, Ora Mae Haddox and Trula Edge.
The service was May 15 at 11 a.m. at Tompkins Baptist Church in Grove Hill with Dr. Johnny Kendrick and Rev. Don Newton officiating. Burial was in the Trinity Memorial Gardens in Jackson.
Active pallbearers were Keith Newton, Bubba Bell, Nick Steadham, Kevin Averett, Ward Edge, Jeffrey Keel, Kenny Lofton and Mike Baugh.
