Gregory Alan "Tatom" Watkins Jr., 29, a native of Jackson and a resident of Chattanooga, Tenn. was born May 20, 1983 to the parentage of Cynthia Rodgers Watkins and the late Gregory Alan Watkins Sr. He departed this life Friday, June 1. 2012 in Chattanooga.
"Tatom", as he was affectionately called, accepted Christ at an early age and united with Mount Olive Baptist Church Number #2, Jackson where he was active in the Crusader auxiliary and sang in the youth choir.
He attended Jackson High School and was a 2001 graduate of Leroy High School. He was employed as a First Year Journeyman Electrician with Renewed Contractors in Chattanooga.
"Tatom" loved sports and enjoyed football, baseball, and basketball. He also loved and excelled in video games and was named the "Gamer" of the family.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Jim and Johnnie Rodgers, and his paternal grandfather, George Watkins, Sr.
He is cherished in the hearts and memories of his loving and devoted family: mother, Cynthia Rodgers Watkins, Jackson; one son, Gregory Alan Watkins III, Chattanooga, Tenn.; three daughters, JaLeigha McKenzie, Jackson, Lamiyah Bradley, Grove Hill, Alexandria Noel Johnson, Ft. Worth, Texas; three brothers, Gabrel Watkins of Jackson, AL; Marcus Chatmon, Los Angeles, Calif., Sanquon Life, Athens, GA; one sister, Chelsea Watkins, Jackson; a special friend, Angela Tillison, Chattanooga, Tenn. and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
Viewing will be Saturday, June 9, at 11 a.m. until the 12 noon service at Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church #2, 105 Griffin Street, Jackson, AL 36545; Rev. Stevenson E. Tullis, pastor; Rev. Kevin Jackson, eulogist. Following, the burial in Woodlawn Cemetery, the family will receive friends in the fellowship hall of the church.
