John Edmund “Jack” Adams Jr. died Saturday, June 16 at his home in Grove Hill. He was 85.

He was a longtime Grove Hill attorney, working in the law firm with his father, the late John Adams Sr. The father and son practiced as Adams and Adams. Later when Bruce Wilson joined the firm it became Adams, Adams and Wilson. Today, the successor firm is Wilson and Drinkard.

Jack Adams was a graduate of the University of Alabama School of Business and Commerce and the University of Alabama Law School. He was a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity, the Alabama Bar Association and the Clarke County Bar Association.

He served in the U. S. Marines and was Clarke County Solicitor in the 1960s.

Survivors include his wife, Nanelle Trice Adams of Grove Hill; son, David Coleman Adams of Gulf Shores; daughter, Martha Evelyn Shahan Adams of Baker, La.; grandchildren, John Michael (Heather) Adams and Melissa Louise (Rusty) Adams-Dillon all of Bon Secour; William David Adams and Coleman Troupe Adams, all of Gulf Shores; Mary Megan Adams and Katherine Shahan Adams all of Columbus, Ga.; daughters-in-Law, Merrilee Adams of Bon Secour, Deborah Adams of Columbus, Ga.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John Edmund and Nan Coleman Adams Sr.; sons, John Edmund Adams, III and Peter Trice Adams.

The funeral was held at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 20 at the Grove Hill United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dave Rhodes officiating. Interment was in Grove Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were John Michael Adams, William David Adams, Coleman Troupe Adams, Rusty Dillon, Steve Crowley and John T. Daffin.

Honorary pallbearers included Bruce N. Wilson, Lee B. Williams, William A. Kimbrough, Hon. Hardie B. Kimbrough, Paul Waite, Don French, William Stephen Gordon, Lamar C. Johnson, Wade Bowen Perry, Frank Hickman and George “Buddy” Skipper.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Grove Hill Library or the Jimmy Finley Memorial Library of the Grove Hill United Methodist Church.
