Bill Plummer, 82, of Ridge Grove, Ala. Died July 20, 2012 at The Bethany House Hospice in Auburn.
He was retired from The United States Air Force after 24 years of service reaching the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He received the Meritorious Service Medal, Bronze Star, USAF Commendation Medal, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award with Oak Leaf Cluster, National Defense Service Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, Southeast Asia Medal with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters USAF Service Medal with 4 Oak Leaf Clusters (20 Years Service), Vietnam Combat Medal, Vietnam Service Medal. After the service he retired from the City of Auburn after 13 years of service.
Survivors include his wife, Hazel Smith Plummer, Ridge Grove; three children, Gayle (Chris) Elliott, Tupelo, Miss., William Charles “Chuck” (Donna) Plummer, Smiths, Ala., Jeffrey A. (Mary) Plummer, Oxford, Mich.; one brother, M.C. Plummer, Jackson; four sisters, Dorothy (Bernard) Schenk, Thomasville, Leta Williams, Dallas, Texas, Katherine (Douglas) Barfield, Montgomery, Virginia (Dewey) Crim, Duluth, Georgia; six grandchildren, Amy, Billy, Alan, Emily, Jaryd and Kelsey.
A memorial service will be Tuesday, July 24 at 2 p.m. at The Center Baptist Church in Ridge Grove with Rev. Lamar Smith to officiate.
