Edward Olson Smyly, 91, of Grand Bay died Aug. 7, 2012 at Lynwood Nursing Home in Mobile.
He was born March 15, 1921 in Magnolia. He was affectionately known as “Paw” and loved playing with his grandkids. He believed in hard work, sharing his garden and helping others. He was a member of the Friendship Baptist Church. He was a World War II, United States Coast Guard Veteran. He was a former shipyard burner of Grand Bay.
Survivors include his son, Howard Smyly; two daughters, Dona (Riley) Glass, Margy (Glenn) Perkins, all of Grand Bay; one brother, Grant Smyly, Birmingham; six grandchildren; 11 greatgrandchildren; numerous family, friends and loved ones.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Nellie Ray Smyly; parents, Frank and Virginia Smyly and 11 of 13 siblings.
The service was Aug. 10 at 11:30 a.m. at O’Bryant Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Robbie Howard officiating. Burial was in the County Line Baptist Church Cemetery in Arlington.
Active pallbearers were Frank Glass, Shann Smyly, Chad Perkins, Blake Perkins, Kyle Brannan and Konnor Brannan.
Honorary pallbearer was Darryl Smyly.
