Frances Lu Roberts, 85, of Concord, Calif. died Oct. 28, 2012 following a long illness.
She was born May 1, 1927 in Brewton, the daughter of Frances and Clyde Brantley. She lived most of her life in Coffeeville and Thomasville. A graduate of Thomasville High School she obtained her bachelor’s degree from Alabama College State College for Women (now the University of Montevallo and moved back to Clarke County where she taught commercial education at both Thomasville High School and Jackson High School.
Following her marriage to Sydney Earl Roberts, she moved to Coffeeville where her husband owned S.E. Roberts & Company grocery store, now Greer’s. In later years, she was employed in the Coffeeville branch of United Security Bank, now First United Security Bank and retired from there. She was a member of the Coffeeville Baptist Church until she moved to Thomasville during her retirement years where she was a member of the First Baptist Church of Thomasville.
Survivors include her son, Rev. Jack Nelson Roberts and daughter-in-law, Becky; two married grandsons, Richard Brantley, (Sheri Renee) Roberts and their daughter, Lily Anne Roberts, Michael Andrew (Elizabeth Noel) Roberts, all of Concord, CA and one surviving brother and sister-in-law, John Thomas (Betty) Brantley of Columbus, GA.
A graveside service was Oct. 5 at 11 a.m. at the Coffeeville Cemetery. Her son, Rev. Jack Roberts, conducted the service.
