Willie B. Sheffield, 84, of Chatom died Nov. 7, 2012 in the Washington County Hospital.
He was born Dec. 28, 1927. He was a member and Deacon of the Chatom Baptist Church as well as a Sunday school teacher. He was the former mayor of Chatom having served three terms. He was a member of Kiwanis Club. He was a World War II Veteran having served in the United States Navy. He was the owner of Sheffield’s Furniture for 60 years.
Survivors include two sons, Mike Sheffield, Jim (Bridget) Sheffield, both of Chatom; two brothers, Ray Sheffield, Larry Gene Sheffield, both of Grove Hill; two sisters, Nell Smith, Jackson, Clarice Hoven, Grove Hill; two grandchildren, Caty Sheffield (Chris) Wilson, Stephen Michael Sheffield; one great-grandchild; special friend, Voncille Hoffman.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Jean Sheffield, parents, Willie S. and Sadie Lee Sheffield; two brothers, Ralph Sheffield and Henry Lee Sheffield; two sisters, Alda Rae Woolfolk and Cathrine Sessions.
The service was Nov. 9 at 11 a.m. at the Chatom First Baptist Church at with Revs. Jerry Roberson and Jim O’Neal officiating. Burial was in the Chatom Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Dwight Dunn, Jon Odom, Eric Odom, Wayne Sessions, Randy Sheffield, Tony Sheffield, Chad Sheffield, Gene Sheffield, Barry Hoven, Craig Hoven, Blair Hurd and Jamie Hurd.
Honorary pallbearers were J.L. Little, Sammie Woodard and Perry Johnson.
