Jo Ann Powell Rew, 77, of Grove Hill died Nov. 23, 2012
She was born March 27, 1935 at her mother and father’s residence at Ward in Sumter County. She was the eldest child of Jimmie M. and Della Stallings Powell of Ward. She attended the old Ward school through the eighth grade where she was transferred to Sumter County High in York to complete her high school education in May of 1953. She met and married her high school sweetheart, Thomas H. Rew (Chicken), when he returned from the Korean War later in 1953. They made a home and raised a family in Sumter and Clarke Counties in Alabama. Mrs. Rew and her husband reared and loved three children: Kathy, Joe and Lisa Rew. She loved her family and enjoyed her home, cooking, gardening, needle and handwork, and church and other community activities. She worked at Dumas Brothers for several years and then turned to a new adventure in her work career by becoming a nursing assistant for many years in order to help others in her community. After she retired she enjoyed going to estate sales searching for her little treasurers of taste and style of unique jewelry and antiques. She always loved to express her savy of style by looking for the latest fashions that peaked her interest and loved to show her taste.
