Walter L. “Skeeter” Phillips Jr., 69, of Jackson died Dec. 4, 2012.
He was born July 30, 1948. He was a native of Leroy and resident of Jackson for the past 14 years. He was a member of Stave Creek Baptist Church. He was a maintenance superintendent for Mead Southern Wood Products for many years and a welder/millwright for various companies before his retirement.
Survivors include his wife, Ginny S. Phillips, Jackson; his mother, Bonnie E. Phillips, Leroy; five sons, Walt (Pam) Phillips, Sims Chapel, Troy (Robin) Phillips, Frankville, Ike (Callie) Williams, Jackson, Jake Williams, Jud Williams, both of Jackson; one brother, Steve (Linny) Phillips, Leroy; four sisters, Bonnie Jean (Don) Tolbert, Sunflower, Donna (Larry) Wiggins, Linda Phillips, Becky (Tillman) Bozeman, all of Leroy; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; numerous other relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Walter L. Phillips Sr.
The service was Dec. 6 at 2 p.m. at Stave Creek Baptist Church with Revs. Wesley Hicks, Huie Denton and Lon Baxter officiated. Burial was in the Leroy Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Will O’Gwynn, Daryl Beck, David Guy, J.J. Jones, Greg Pittman and Scottie Dorman.
Honorary pallbearers were Median Adult Sunday School Class, Gene and Juanita Allday and Leroy High School Class of 1961 Classmates.
