W.V. Bedwell, age 84, died Dec. 12, 2012 at Grove Hill Memorial Hospital. He was a native and life-long resident of Clarke County, residing in the Sand Flat community in Thomasville.
Mr. Bedwell served his country in the United States Army during World War II, spending time in the Philippines.
Bedwell retired from Scotch Lumber Co. in Fulton after 46 years of service, performing a variety of functions but primarily as a truck driver taking heavy equipment into the woods. He also farmed before becoming active in raising cattle.
He was well-known for the phrase, “If you don’t put something into it, don’t expect to get anything out of it.” Mr. Bedwell did not mind hard work. He said, “I do it for my seven children.” Inspired by his grandfather, Lee “Bud” Bedwell, he prepared for the future through demonstrating good character and remembering always to “think before you answer”.
He was an avid Alabama football fan.
Survivors include his seven children, Diane (Earl) Harrison of Grove Hill, DeWayne ( Jennie) Bedwell, twins Faye (Ricky) Smith and Kaye (Ricky) Parker, and Dale (Rusty) Morgan, all of Thomasville, Dean Bedwell of Coffeeville and Danny (Sandy) Bedwell of Fulton; and 16 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Telitha S. Bedwell; granddaughter, Melissa Bedwell; and great-granddaughter, Makayla Bedwell.
