Howard Warren Briggs, 89, of Mobile went peacefully to be with the Lord Dec. 31, 2012.
He was born June 9, 1923 in Waterford, PA. He was a long time resident of Putnam.
He was a member of Cottage Hill Baptist Church in Mobile. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge 894. He was a decorated World War II Veteran and received many honors including the Purple Heart and Bronze Star Medals. During his long career in the Air Force and NASA, he worked on the Apollo and the Minuteman projects as an Air Force Space Systems Quality Control Representative. After his retirement he taught electronics at the Marengo County Area Vocational Center in Linden.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley Briggs; three sons, Russell Ray Briggs, Mitchell Warren (Lucinda) Briggs, Todd Briggs; one daughter, Paula Ann (David) Evans; one step-son, R. Nolan (Kelly) Larson; three step-daughters, Katrina L. Mitchell, Malaina L. (Jerry) Havens, Mariesa E. Anderson; one brother, Harley T. Briggs; 20 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; 32 greatgreat grandchildren; numerous nephews and nieces, including a special niece, Donna Murphy.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Marilyn Downey Briggs; his father, Edwin Briggs; his mother Angeline Nye Briggs; one brother, Bob Briggs; one sister, Betty Jo Janowski.
The service was Jan. 5 at 11 a.m. at Putnam Baptist Church with Rev. Brooks Etheridge officiating. Burial with military honors was in the Putnam Cemetery.

Active pallbearers were Rusty Briggs, Mitch Briggs, Todd Briggs, Cain Briggs, Jeff Neal and Gabe Neal.
Honorary pallbearers were David Evans and John Mitchell.
