Samuel Preston Chapman, 82, died Jan. 13, 2013 at his residence.

He was born Sept. 23, 1930 in Winn to the union of the late Quillie Lee and Dan Chapman.

He was a member of the Grace Temple Apostolic Church of God in Leroy until his health failed. A veteran of the United States Armed Forces, after retirement he worked in the construction industry for many years.

Survivors include his devoted wife, Mother Pearlie M. Chapman, Leroy; 11 sons, Carl Chapman, Toddtown, Michael (Mary) Chapman, Jackson, Herman (Mary) Chapman, Asst. Overseer Darious (Evette) Chapman, both of St. Stephens, Samuel (Sieta) Chapman Jr., Slidell, La., Lewis Ridgeway Jr., Sherman Ridgeway, both of Leroy, Willie D. Mobley, Jimmie L. Ivory, both of Mobile, Louis (Xamaria) Koins Jr., Crestview, Fla., Alphonza (JoAnn) Koins, Danville; five daughters, Marilyn (Richard) Burrell, Toddtown, Patricia (Elvis) Bowman, St. Stephens, Carolyn Hamby, Los Angeles, Calif., Lela (Clifford) Johnson, Winn, Oletha (Sabino) Jordan, Leroy; two brothers, Rev. Howard (Nancy) Chapman, Toddtown,  Johnny (Mable) Chapman, Mobile; four sisters, Lula Rooks, Earline (Andy) Parker, Mavis (Willie) Jackson, all of Detroit, Mithea (Marshall) Law , Grove Hill; 33 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; former wife, Palace Chapman; brother, Dan C. Chapman; and two sisters, Mamie L. Parker and Barbara Thomas.

Viewing will be Friday, Jan. 18, from 11 a.m. until the 12 noon funeral hour at the Winn A.O.H. Church of God with Asst. Overseer James Richardson, pastor, and Elder Beverly Turner, officiating minister. Burial will be in the church cemetery with military honors.

Jackson Memorial Funeral Home will direct.

The family will receive friends in the fellowship hall following burial.
