R.L. Howell, 97, of Jackson died Jan. 13, 2013 surrounded by his family at the Jackson home of his daughter.
He was a retired machine operator with Jackson Saw Mill. He was a member of Mt. Olive No. 2 Baptist Church in Jackson. He enjoyed life to the fullest. He attended the Jackson Nutrition Center every day until November of 2012, when his health prohibited it. He truly enjoyed riding the bus daily.
Survivors include one son, Comma Marsh of Detroit, Mich.; three loving and devoted daughters, Lillie Howell, Indianapolis, Ind., Alma (Ortiza) Cox, Mobile, Martha (Bob) Foreman, Jackson; six grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and friends, as well as his extended family at the Jackson Nutrition Center.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Arcola Love Howell; parents, Osborne and Earl Howell; five brothers, Rhett Howell, Vander Howell, Edmond Howell, Wallace Howell and Gilbert Howell, seven sisters, Mamie Howell, Minnie Simon, Leah Howell, Louise Jackson, Willodean Barnes, Martha McGhee, Maggie Howell and Molly Burke.
The service was Jan. 20 at 2 p.m., at Mt. Olive No. 2 Baptist Church in Jackson with Revs. Stevenson E. Tullis, pastor, and Ortiza Cox, officiating minister. Burial was in the Woodlawn Cemetery in Jackson.
