Ervin

Rev. Albert James Ervin of Leroy died March 16, 2013 at Mobile Infirmary. 

He was born to the late Sophie Mae Donald Ervin and Albert Ervin.

Accepting Christ at an early age, he became a minister. Rev. Ervin was pastor of Wicks Chapel Baptist Church of Campbell and Springfield Baptist Church of Toxey. He retired from C.E. Harrell and Sons of Sunflower after 40 years as a truck driver.

Survivors include three daughters, Stephanie (Ron) Ervin, Leroy, Yolanda Ervin, San Antonio, Texas, Evon (Darius) Parker, Fayetteville, N.C.; three brothers, Sampson (Minister Carrie) Ervin, Frank Ervin, Louis Ervin, all of Leroy; four sisters, Lula (James) Jackson, Pearline King, Marilyn (Timothy) Williams, all of Leroy, Lula Jean Ervin, Mobile; nine grandchildren, Diamond McKay, Keontae Ervin, Tracy Barnes, Allen Barnes, Jahkira Ervin, all of Jackson, Dominique Parker, Dareesha Parker, both of Fayetteville, Monae Bell, Sierra Taylor, both of San Antonio; a host of nieces and nephews; two very close friends, Juan Howell, Leroy, C.L. Wright, Jackson; special friend, Vera Jackson, Jackson; four devoted cousins, Florence and Jimmy Simon, and Michael and Louise Gully, all of Leroy.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Angela Ervin; son, Reginald James Ervin; two brothers, Joseph “Peter” Ervin and Albert “Pap” Ervin; sister, Florence Simon; two nieces, Katherine “Kat” Ezell and Lorraine Johnson; and one great-nephew, Lashavian Johnson.

Visitation will be Friday, March 22, from 6-8 p.m. in the chapel of Jackson Memorial Funeral Home in Jackson; Saturday, March 23, from 10 a.m. until the funeral hour at 11 at St. Union Baptist Church in Leroy. Rev. Richmond Chaney is pastor and the Rev. Willie Jackson will officiate. Burial will be in St. Union Baptist Church Cemetery in Leroy.
