She was born Feb. 20, 1923 in Dickinson. She was a lifelong resident of Clarke County. After attending Grove Hill High School she married her high school sweetheart, Curtis Bernard O’Gwynn, to whom she was married to for 63 years until his death in 2003. Along with Curtis, Irma was a partner in O’Gwynn’s Fashions—a long-time staple for clothing in Jackson. Upon their retirement in 1996, Mrs. Irma continued her passions for travel, gardening, fishing and bridge as well as spending time with many dear friends and family. Irma was a 50-plus year member of the Women’s Club of Jackson and a long-time member of the First Baptist Church of Jackson.
Survivors include one daughter, Robbie Faye O’Gwynn (John) Griffin, Charleston, WV; granddaughters, Burns Griffin (Turner) Lewis, Richmond, Virginia and Lauren O’Gwynn Griffin, Birmingham; two greatgrandchildren; sister-in-law, Clara O’Gwynn DuBose, Jackson; one devoted niece, Lelia (Bob) Powell, Jackson; other nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Curtis; parents, Robert and Mary Virginia Hepstall; brothers, Aaron, Charlie, Jamie, Leroy and Alvin Hepstall.
A reception in the celebration of Irma’s life will be held for family and friends Thursday, April 4 in the First Baptist Church Fellowship Hall in Jackson from 5:30 until 7:30 p.m. A graveside service will be Friday, April 5 at 11 a.m. at Trinity Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Jackson.
