Minister Eunice Thomas-Rouse, affectionately known to many as “Salfie” was born to the parentage of Hannah Louise Lynum Thomas and the late Pat Thomas Sr. on Feb. 15, 1959 in Whatley.
She was a life-long member of Morning Star Baptist Church of Whatley. Minister Rouse accepted her call into the ministry of Jesus Christ and preached her initial sermon November 21, 2010 at Morning Star. She was also a member of Seven Light Baptist Church and was affiliated with Trinity Baptist Church, both of Bronx, NY where she served faithfully until her health failed.
She was a minister, wife, mother, friend, and a devoted woman of God. God called this special woman home May 7, 2013 at her childhood home in Whatley amongst family. She is preceded in death by her father, Pat Thomas Sr.
She leaves to cherish her memories, her mother, Hannah Thomas of Whatley; her husband, Alton Rouse Sr., Bronx, NY, a son, Marcus (Brandeis) Thomas, Whatley; two step-sons, Alton Rouse Jr., Jordan Rouse, both of Bronx, NY; five daughters, Shandra Thomas, Courtney Thomas, Alisha Rouse, all of Whatley; Elana Rouse, Bronx, NY; Alexandria Rouse, Whatley; two step daughters, Shenique Rouse, Alexis Rouse, both of Bronx, NY; two sisters, Vivian (Woodie) Coates, Grove Hill, Earlisia (Jeffery) Hickman, Joliet, IL; two brothers, Pat Thomas Jr., Whatley, James Reginald (Bositta) Thomas, Kissimmee, FL; five grandchildren, Damarcus Thomas, Kaylen Rouse, Adryanna Rouse, Aliyanna Rouse and Layla Pierre; three sisters-in-law, Icilma Woods, Doreta Ward, Robina Ward; four brother-in-laws, Vincent Parrish, Cecil Rouse, James Parrish, and Kennedy Rouse, and host of nieces and nephews, relatives, friends, and loved ones.
The service was May 13 at 12 noon at Morning Star Baptist Church of Whatley; Rev. Bobby England, pastor and eulogist.
Pallbearers were Larry Wilson, Barry Wilson, Kelsey Marbley, Charles Jackson, Bobby Smith, John Horn and Craig Horn.
Flower bearers were the Clarke County High School Class of 1975 and friends of the family. Burial was in Heron Hill Cemetery.
