King Arant Swanson, 97, of St. Bernard’s Village Assisted Living of Jonesboro, Ark., died May 13, 2013 at the Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House in Jonesboro.
She lived in Alabama for 82 years. She had fond memories of Auburn, Jackson and Monroeville and the wonderful friends she had in those towns. She was a retired beautician who loved gardening, cooking and entertaining friends, neighbors and family. Upon her husband’s death in 1998, she moved to Paragould to be near her nephew. While there, she attended Paragould First United Methodist Church and was a member of the Homemakers Sunday School class. She proudly continued her membership at the First United Methodist Church in Monroeville.
Mrs. Swanson was truly a “Southern Lady” with an accent to prove it. There was always a smile for everyone, and her gentle demeanor welcomed anyone who crossed her path. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends across the states of Alabama, Arkansas and Texas.
Survivors include one sister, Verla Mae Bush, Huntsville, Texas; one nephew, Tommy (Jennifer) Arant, Paragould, Ark.; a niece, Betty Turner, Willis, Texas; great-niece that she considered a granddaughter, Audra Arant (Will) Choate, Little Rock, Ark.; and many nephews, nieces and great-nieces.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lottie and Perry Arant; one son, Bobby Sellers; a brother, Tom Frank Arant and her husband, Jimmie Swanson.
A graveside service will be Friday, May 17 at 1 p.m. at the Baptist Cemetery with Rev. Sara Shaver officiating.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be sent to Monroeville FUMC, 324 Pineville Road, Monroeville, AL 36460.
