She was employed with Pic & Sav Deli of Jackson until her health failed. She confessed Christ at an early age and joined Indian Ridge Baptist Church of Whatley. She later moved her membership to Wayman Chapel A.M.E. Church of Suggsville where she served as Choir Director and President of the choir. She enjoyed singing for the Lord. She was a 1975 graduate of Clarke County High School.
Survivors include a devoted husband, Willie J. Abston, Suggsville; two sons, Ansel Darnell (Angel) Portis, Toddtown, Aron Terall Portis, Suggsville; one step-son, Timothy (Erica) Abston, Jackson; one step-daughter, Malinda Abston, Toddtown; seven sisters; Shellie (Charlie) Pugh, Toddtown; Annie Mary Phillips, Camden; Carrie Taylor, Jackson; Lee Fields, Boston, MA; Annie P. Phillips, Mobile; Faye (Terry) Hunt, Alma, Ethel (Willie) Jackson, Gainestown; four brothers; L.C. Portis, Fred Earl (Mary) Portis, Minister Fredrick Portis, Suggsville, Frank (Rutha) Phillips Jr., Camden; a brother-in-law, Willie Jones Jr., Chicago, IL; six grandchildren; four adopted children; Fredrick, Jamie, Stevens, Joseph, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Lee Etta Portis Foster.
Viewing will be Thursday, May 23 at 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. at Wayman Chapel A.M.E. Church in Suggsville with Rev. Willie Mae Rice, pastor, officiating. Rev. Prospere Sainvilus, eulogist.
