Her early education was in Jackson and Leroy. She was a 2004 graduate of Leroy High School. She received her associate’s degree from Bishop State Community College in 2006. She also attended the University of South Alabama until she moved to Columbus.
She leaves to cherish her memory a loving daughter, Naima Mugadza; a loving and devoted father, the Rev. Douglas Pernell Jr. of Jackson; five brothers, Douglas (Tonya) Pernell III, Derrick (Arlisa) Pernell, Jason (Rosika) Pernell, Jonathan (Trenise) Pernell and Victor ( Jasmine) Pernell; sister, Grace Pernell; grandmothers, Margaret Pernell and Ruth English; a host of uncles, aunts, nieces,nephews and other family and friends she held close to her heart.
Ms. Pernell was preceded in death by her mother, Minister Charlotte English Pernell; sister, Cherilyn Elizabeth Pernell; aunt, Joe Ann English; grandmother, Mamie Elder English; grandfathers, Douglas Pernell Sr. and Joseph English and uncles, Kenneth Pernell and Victor Watkins.
The funeral will be Saturday, June 15 at Mt. Olive No. 2 Baptist Church in Jackson with viewing to begin at 10 a.m. followed by the service at 11 a.m. The Rev. Stevenson E. Tullis, pastor and the Rev. Eugene Segres, will officiate. Interment will be in St. Peters Cemetery in Allen with Jackson Memorial Funeral Home directing. The family will receive family and friends in the fellowship hall of the church following burial.
