He was born February 22, 1943 in the Winn Community to the parentage of the late Mr. Pearlie Chapman and the late Mrs. Ollie Chapman. At an early age, Pastor Chapman united with Mount Zion Baptist Church of Grove Hill. He later united with Union Missionary Baptist Church of Coffeeville where he served in various capacities.
He was a 1960 graduate of Clarke County Training School (C.C.T.S.) Coffeeville. He joined the United States Army and served his country diligently for 27 years. Upon receiving his honorable discharge, he enrolled in Alabama Southern Community College and later graduated with an associate degree in welding. He retired after working numerous years in his chosen field. In 1998, he heard the voice of Jesus calling, and he responded by saying, “Here I am, Lord; send me”.
In 2000, he was called to pastor Pineville Baptist Church in Gilbertown. In 2004, he was called to pastor Union Missionary Baptist Church of Coffeeville. He was serving as pastor of both churches when the Lord called him from labor to reward.
He will live forever in the hearts of his devoted wife of 42 years, Shirley Mitchell Chapman, Coffeeville; four children; Belinda (Adolph) Cowan, Coffeeville, Terrance (Dextin) Cobbs, Hinesville, GA, Ralph (Carstina) Chapman of Coffeeville, Purvis (Diana) Chapman, Waverly Hall, GA, one sister, Lillian Chapman,Winn.
He will also be sadly missed by seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a devoted friend, Deacon Walter Patterson; a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and other relatives and friends.
Viewing will be Saturday, July 13 at 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. service at Union Missionary Baptist Church of Coffeeville, Rev. Clayton Davis, Jr., eulogist. Burial will be in the Rock Bar Cemetery in the West Bend Community of Coffeeville. Military rites will be at graveside.
