Chief Petty Officer Reginald Jay “Muddy” Rivers, III ADC(AW), 34, of Willow Park, TX died July 10, 2013 at MD Anderson in Houston, TX.
He was born Nov. 13, 1978. He was a native of Jackson. He was a member of Horizon Baptist Church in Camarillo, CA, American Legion Post 274 and National Rifle Association. He was a construction manager with Voith, Inc., and Chief Petty Officer in the U.S. Navy ADC(AW).
Survivors include his wife, Kathryn Elizabeth Smith Rivers, Solomons, MD, formerly of Jackson; one son, Caleb Anthony Rivers, Crystal Rivers, FL; parents, Reginald Jay Rivers Jr. and Ann Willoughby Rivers, Coffeeville; grandmother, Lillian Willoughby, Leroy; one brother, Mathew Eric Rivers, (Rhiannon) Hoover; uncles, aunts, cousins, numerous friends and family.
He was preceded in death by grandparents, Reginald Jay “RJ” Rivers Sr. and Vivian McClosky Rivers, and Lloyd T. Willoughby.
Visitation will be Thursday, July 18 from 6 until 9 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church of Jackson. The service will be Friday, July 19 at 10 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Jackson. He will lie in state one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Trinity Memorial Gardens in Jackson with military honors.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to your favorite charity.
Active pallbearers will be Nicholas Goldman, Spencer Smith, Michael “Elvis” Presley, Jeff “Gumby” Grumboski, Tony Martinez, James Chivers and Chris Butts.
Honorary pallbearers will be Brad Smith, Chuck Smith, Jim Dewhirst, Butch Brackin, Roy Schell, Charles Smith Sr., and fellow Navy brothers and sisters.
