Bernice May Garrett, longtime resident of Grove Hill and widow of Theodore Watrous Garrett Sr., died at her home in Grove Hill on July 30, 2013 at the age of 99.
She was a member of a pioneer family of Clarke County, born at Salitpa to the late Edmund Archie May and Lizzie Pitman May.
Mrs. Garrett was a Baptist, held life membership in the University of Montevallo Alumni Association, and was a member of the Grove Hill Community Study Club. At the time of her death she was the oldest living member of Grove Hill Baptist Church. She and her late husband loved to travel, especially to University of Alabama football games. She loved politics, current events, literature, and her azaleas.
Surviving is her son, Theodore Watrous Garrett Jr., and his wife Claire of Cleveland, Texas, and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband and her sisters Frankie (Mrs. William) Dickson, Ruth (Mrs. Woodie) Alston, Merle (Mrs. Webb) Chastain, and Nell (Mrs. Ernest) McCorquodale.

The service was Aug. 3 at 11 a.m. at Lathan Funeral Home in Grove Hill with Dr. Randy Boone of Grove Hill Baptist Church officiating. Burial was in the Grove Hill Mathews Cemetery.
