Walter Lee “Sleepy” Lang Jr., age 27, of Wagarville, was called from earth to eternity on Friday, Aug. 2, 2013, at Jackson Medical Center. He was born on Nov. 1, 1985 to Walter Lee Sr. and Aubra Jean Hendrix-Lang. Mr. Lang was a member of the Leroy High School Class of 2004, where he was an outstanding basketball player. He was an avid fisherman, a die hard “Auburn” fan and loved to play video games with his friends. He was a member of the Mt. Shady A.M.E. Zion Church in Sunflower.
He leaves to cherish his loving memories, his loving parents, Walter Lee Sr. and Aubra Jean Hendrix- Lang; one brother, Alan Lang, all of Wagarville; six uncles, Charlie (Audrey) Lang of Morgan Hills, Calif., James (Kirtice) Lang and David (Alma) Lang, both of Wagarville, Richard (Linda) Lang of Gulfport, Miss., Marvin Hendrix of Mateo, Calif., and Re Hendrix of Hayward, Calif.; five aunts, Mazie Hacth of Valley Springs, Cove Hill, Mary (Oscar) Marshall of Temple Hills, Md., Edna (Tim) Vaughn of Grove Hill, Judy Hendrix of Houston, Texas, Deborah Hendrix of Madera, Calif.; one great-aunt, Mary Ruth (Fred) Williams of Sunflower; two god children, Jayla Robinson and Tristan Deas; his girlfriend, Sable Gwin of Mobile and the extended Gwin family; and a host of relatives and countless numbers of friends.
Visitation will be Friday, Aug. 9, from 6-8 p.m., at Jackson Memorial Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Saturday, Aug. 10, with viewing from 1 p.m. until the funeral hour at 2, at Mt. Shady A.M.E. Zion Church in Sunflower with the Rev. Douglas James, pastor, and Prophetess Mary Marshall officiating. Interment will follow in the Lang Cemetery in Sunflower.
