Rev. Jessie Simmons, age 55, of Monroeville, departed this life on Saturday, Aug. 3, 2013, at the Monroe County Hospital. He was a 1976 graduate of J.F. Shields High School in Beatrice. Mr. Simmons was a member of the Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Peterman. He was pastor the Pine Flat Missionary Baptist Church in Hybart for 15 years.
Survivors include his wife, Sandra Simmons; son, Justin Simmons; three daughters, Dinna Simmons, Ashley (Tony) Penn and Lakeshia Simmons, all of Monroeville; his mother and stepfather, Janie and Augusta Broughton of Peterman; three brothers, David (Angela) Simmons and Johnny (Everlyn) Simmons, both of Monroeville, and Aaron (Terri) Simmons of Atlanta, Ga.; two sisters, Mary Lyles and Ernestine Simmons, both of Peterman; stepmother, Clarice Dortch of Peterman; and four grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father, Johnny Simmons; and one sister, Mattie Bell Simmons.
Viewing is today, Thursday, Aug. 8, from 12 noon thru 5 p.m., at the Banks Memorial Funeral Home in Monroeville. Viewing will begin Friday, Aug. 9, at 11 a.m. and continue until the funeral hour at 12 noon, at the Amity Baptist Church in Tunnel Springs, with the Rev. Brian Johnson, pastor, and the Rev. Osbry Millender as the officiating minister. Interment will follow in the church cemetery under the direction of Jackson Memorial Funeral Home in Jackson and Banks Memorial Funeral Home and Cremations in Monroeville.
