Virginia Mel Gibbons, 92, of Deatsville died Aug. 17, 2013.

She was formerly of Coffeeville from 1948-1966.

Survivors include two sons, Benjamin (Faye) Gibbons III, Earl (JoAnn) Gibbons; one daughter, Mel Anita (Bill) Reese; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Lura Atkins and nephew, Phillip Lindsey.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1999, Ben T. Gibbons Jr.; three brothers, Tommy Atkins, Eugene Atkins and Jimmy Atkins and a sister, Emma Jo Lindsey.

The service was Aug. 20 at 2 p.m. at Cain’s Chapel United Methodist Church with Revs. William S. Gibbons and Susan Beeson officiating. Burial was in the Pine flay Presbyterian Church Cemetery.

Active pallbearers were Ben Gibbons IV, David Gibbons, Will Reese, Jimmy Stoudenmire, Chad Taunton and Ernie Woodfin.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions are requested to Cain’s Chapel United Methodist Church Building Fund, 96 Lightwood Road, Deatsville, AL 36022.
