Minister Bertha Mae Chapman, 80, died Aug. 31, 2013 at Grove Hill Memorial Hospital.
She was born Nov. 14, 1932 to the parentage of the late Mayard and Beatrice Chapman in Grove Hill. She was a member of the Mt. Olive AME Church in Creola. She accepted Christ at an early age and united with Mt. Zion #2 Baptist Church. She sang in the choir. She was employed at Clarke County High School Cafeteria for many years. She was united in holy matrimony to Evie Lewis Pugh of Waterloo, Iowa.
Survivors include seven children, Evie Charles (Willie Mae) Pugh, Henry (Debbie) Pugh, Patsy (Marc) Byrd, Arnita Pugh Nobles, Bobby (Ruth) Pugh, Waterloo, Iowa, Cassie Carol Stewart, Andrea (Dwight) Allen, Grove Hill; one brother, Robert Chapman, Jackson; six sisters, Marie (Eddie Roy Pugh Sr.), Mattie (Abraham Chapman), Grove Hill, Betty Johnson, Montgomery, Mary Love, Atlanta, GA, Octavia Siglar, Selma, Marscilla (James) Wright, Waterloo, Iowa; 16 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; a host of nephew, nieces, relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Grady Chapman and Bobby Joe Chapman and her husband, Nathan Chapman Jr. for 17 years,
The service will be Friday, Sept. 6. Viewing will begin at 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. service at the Mt. Zion No. 2 Baptist Church in Grove Hill with Revs. William Jackson, pastor and Eddie Roy Pugh Jr. officiating. Burial will be in the Mt. Zion No. 2 Baptist Church Cemetery.
