Jackson

Nollie Jackson Sr., 99, of Jackson died Sept. 26, 2013.

He was born to the late Pearlie Williams and Orie Jackson on Sept. 17, 1914 and raised by his aunt and uncle Elizabeth and John Calyon. He was affectionately known as “Buffalo” to some and “Bud” to others. He was a retired logger. He loved watching wrestling and westerns.

He played a vital role in the community as he helped every family at one point in time. On many occasions, he volunteered to help dig graves. Even after his health failed and he could no longer assist with the labor, he was still called upon when questions arose. He was known for sitting under the tree telling tales of his youth, some funny, others sad as he lived through the great depression. Many turned to him for needed family history as he was the oldest resident in the Rockville community. He will be well remembered and was loved by all.

Survivors include three sons, Nollie Jackson Jr., Albert Jackson, Joseph (Mary) Jackson, all of Jackson; five daughters, Ruthie (Johnny) Burrell, Elizabeth (Samuel) Burrell, Marie Steele, all of Jackson, Mae Ida (Charlie) Skeaton, Barbara (Robert) Leray, Reno, Nev.; 19 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Mary Lee Bettis, Jackson; one sister-in-law, Catherine Jackson, Citronelle; two devoted cousins, Emma Washington, Patricia Williams, both of Jackson; two god-children, Mattie Crayton, Wendell Jackson and a devoted friend, Robert “Buddy” Jackson Jr.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Louella Sims Jackson and one son, Jack C. Jackson

Viewing will be Saturday, Oct. 5, from 10 until the 11 a.m. funeral hour at Mt. Olive No. 1 Baptist Church in Rockville with Rev. Kevin Jackson as officiating minister. Burial will be in the Mt. Olive No. 1 Baptist Church Cemetery.
