Tech Sergeant Anthony Barganier Sr., 39, died Oct. 8, 2013.

He was born June 28, 1974. He was a native of Grove Hill and the son of Rev. James and Mary Alice Barganier. He was the first of twin boys.

Confessing Christ at an early age in Opelika, he attended Antioch Baptist Church in Nicholsville. He was a member of the Clarke County High School Class of 1992 and continued his education at the University of South Alabama in Mobile and Southern Union Community College in Opelika.

A disabled veteran of the United States Air Force Reserve, during his military career he was crew chief for the 403rd Air Craft Maintenance Squadron and flight engineer for the 53rd Weather Reconnaissance Squadron (Hurricane Hunters), stationed at Keesler Air Force Base in Biloxi, Miss. He received an honorable discharge from the military with the rank of tech sergeant.

He was a devoted father to his four children and a loving husband, always supportive and involved in his family’s lives and extracurricular activities. He was also vice president of the Dixie Youth Association, president of Wilson Hall Middle School PTO, a member of the CCHS Quarterback Club and a radio announcer for the CCHS football team.

Enjoying cooking and grilling for his family and friends, he kept his yard manicured, enjoyed watching movies and was a computer “guru.” He was a diehard Alabama football fan and never met a stranger. Anthony was a friend to all who crossed his path.

Left to cherish his memories are his loving wife, Latonia; four children, Anthony Jr., Angelique, Kiana and Christian; devoted parents, Rev. James and Mary Alice Barganier; grandmother, Edwina Davis; two brothers, James Jr., Andrew (Camie), his twin brother; one sister, Melanie; sister-in-law, Katrina Dumas; nephew Bryce; nieces, Chandler and Chloe; a host of aunts, uncles, extended family members, cousins and friends who will forever hold Anthony’s memory in their hearts that are too numerous to name.

The service was Oct. 14 at the Greater Mackey Branch Baptist Church No. 2 in Whatley with Rev. Dr. Dave Adams, pastor, as officiating minister. Burial was in the Greater Mackey Branch Baptist Church Cemetery.

Active pallbearers were Leroy Cunningham Jr., Tremichael Davis, Antonio Davis, Errick Pace, Byron Davis, Chris Pace and Roderick Davis.
