She was born March 28, 1930. She was a native of Coffeeville. She received her Master’s degree and AA Certification from the University of Alabama. She worked as a teacher in Clarke County and Mobile County for 43 years. She was known to many as Aunt Kate, to many more as Miss Kate as she leaves behind a legacy of uncountable first grade students whom she loved as her own.
Survivors include her husband, I.G. Leighton Reeves; her daughter, Mary Shirey; son by marriage, Dr. Mark Shirey; granddaughter, Caitie Beth Shirey; sister by marriage, Ouida McIntyre, numerous nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Grace McIntyre, and a brother, George McIntyre Jr.
The service was Sunday, Oct. 27 at 3 p.m. at the Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home Chapel. A graveside service was Oct. 28 at 2 p.m. at Mobile Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
