Lewis Clay “L.C.” Portis, 69, of Suggsville died Nov. 15, 2013 at his residence. He was born to the late Lee Andrew Portis and Ara Wilson Portis. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Whatley.
Survivors include his wife, Roisene Portis, Whatley; four daughters, Carolyn Portis, Adella Portis, Mattie (Larry) Hudson, all of Gosport, Augustina (Elderidge) Owens, Mobile; two brothers, Fred (Mary) Portis, Minister Fredrick Portis, both of Suggsville; one sister, Shellie (Charlie) Pugh, Toddtown; 13 grandchildren; four greatgrandchildren; a host of nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends; a devoted friend, Laria Williams, Gainestown.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Michael Portis and two sisters, Lee Etta Portis Foster and Clearetta Portis Abston.
Viewing will be Saturday, Nov. 23 from 1 p.m. until the 2 p.m. service at the First Baptist Church of Whatley with Rev. Fernell Pendleton, pastor and eulogist. A burial will be in the Wayman Chapel Cemetery. The family will receive friends in the Wayman Chapel Fellowship Hall.
