Arthur Lee “Big Daddy” Chaney Sr., age 75, a native of Washington County and a resident of Jackson, departed this life Dec. 2, 2013 at Springhill Memorial Hospital in Mobile. He was a retired machine operator at Boise.
Mr. Chaney was a member of Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Jackson.
Survivors include his devoted and loving wife, Nettie Winston Chaney of Jackson; two sons, Arthur (Valarie) Chaney Jr. of Stone Mountain, Ga. and Aaron (Angie) Chaney of Monroeville; six daughters, Annie T. Hill and Esther (Daron) Jones, both of Jackson, Cassandra (Anthony) Jackson of Gainestown, Nettie Diane Chaney of Las Vegas, Nev., Bessie (James) Davis and Vanessa (Kevin) Davis, both of Monroeville; five brothers, Albert (Berteal) Chaney, Robert Earl Chaney, Willie James (Shirley) Chaney and Willie Roger Chaney, all of Mobile, and John (Mary) Chaney of Le Belle, Fla.; three sisters, Beverly (Ira) Moore, Barbara (Earnest) Johnson and Shirley (Larry) Casher, all of Mobile; 21 grandchildren, 20 greatgrandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Bessie Mae Wright Chaney and Rudolph Arthur Lee; brother, Frank Chaney; and sisters, Annie Beth, Bernice Foreman, Jessie Winston and Ruthie Bracey.
Visitation will be Friday, Dec. 6, from 6-8 p.m. in the chapel of Jackson Memorial Funeral Home in Jackson. Viewing Saturday, Dec. 7, will be from 10 a.m. until the funeral hour at 11, at the Jackson High School auditorium. Mr. Chaney’s brother, Albert Chaney will do the disclosure. Interment will follow in the St. Union Cemetery in Leroy.
