Laura Forshee Garraway, a native of Pennington, was born Jan. 12, 1923 to the late Augusta and Lillie Chaney Forshee. In the early morning of Jan. 27, 2014 at Providence, the Lord called her home to rest.
Early in life, she was united in holy matrimony to the late Homer Garraway. She was a member of the Star Zion A.M.E. Zion Church in Jackson. She was known in the Depot community as “Mrs. Laura”.
Mrs. Garraway is survived by two daughters, Mary Gamble and Lauretta Garraway; son, Cedric Garraway, all of Jackson; two sisters, Gussie Rowden of Thomasville and Dora Taylor-Hobbs of Atlanta, Ga.; five grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be Saturday, Feb. 1, with viewing from 11 a.m. until the funeral hour at 11, at the Star Zion A.M.E. Zion Church in Jackson. The Rev. Alvin Hamilton, pastor, will be the officiating minister. Interment will follow in the Woodlawn Cemetery in Jackson under the direction of Jackson Memorial Funeral Home in Jackson.
