Wilbur Lainyer Newton, 65, of Grove Hill died Jan. 7, 2014 at Jackson Medical Center.
He was born Oct. 8, 1948 in Grove Hill. He was a member of Tompkins Baptist Church. He was a retired millwright with McMillian Bloedel.
Survivors include his wife, Edith Newton, Grove Hill; one son, Keith (Heather) Newton, Grove Hill; two daughters, Jessica Newton ( John) Odom, Citronelle, Crystal Newton ( Josh) Boyette, Thomasville; mother, Leila Bell Newton, Grove Hill; four sisters, Elaine (Elma) Averett, Janet (Bill) Pierce, all of Grove Hill, Lynn (Randy) Gates, Thomasville; devoted caregiver and friend, Kelvin Chapman; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild.
The service was Jan. 10 at 11 a.m. at Tompkins Baptist Church with Revs. Johnny Kendrick and Don Newton officiating. Burial was at Tompkins Baptist Church Cemetery in Grove Hill.
Active pallbearers were Ward Edge, Charles Hickson, Nick Steadham, Thomas Armistead, Thomas Anderson and Marvin Anderson.
Honorary pallbearers were co-workers of McMillian Bloedel/Weyerhaueser Inc., Shirley Hamilton, Sharon Reynolds, Kelvin Chapman, the staff of Jackson Home Health, and the Clarke County High School Class of 1967.
