Irene Bettis Norwood departed this life Feb. 4, 2014 at the Jackson Health Care Facility.

She was born June 19, 1938 to the late Lufus and Phyllis Sullivan Bettis.

At an early age, she united with the Big John Baptist Church in Malcolm. Later in life she met and married Tee Norwood and moved to Wagarville uniting with Lewis Grove Baptist Church in Wagarville.

Mrs. Norwood enjoyed cooking and spending time with her grandchildren and family. She was known for her great biscuits.

Left to cherish her memories are her husband, Tee Norwood of Wagarville; nine children, Estella (Frankie) Coleman and Penny (Johnny, Jr.) Black, both of Jackson, John (Rosie) Williams of McIntosh, Juliet Frink of Sunflower, Keith (Nita) Williams of St. Stephens, Marzona (Gabriel) Hillard of Hinesville, Ga., Walter Norwood and Cassandra Spencer, both of Wagarville, and Rondarion Norwood of Mt. Vernon; one sister, Pearlie (Willie) Brown of Pell City; six brothers, Freddie (Irma) Bettis of Malcolm, Leon Bettis of Chicago, Ill., Harry (Bert) Bettis of Sacramento, Calif., Sumpter (Gail) Bettis of Tallahassee, Fla., Perry (Phyllis) Bettis of McIntosh and Jerry (Mattie) Bettis of Montgomery; two sisters-in-law, Jackie (Charlie) Kimbrough of Wagarville and Ethel Bettis of Mt. Vernon; one brother-inlaw, Melvin Norwood of Wagarville; 18 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, with devoted granddaughter, Pandal Carter; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Preceding her in death were her parents; four brothers, Roseal, Marshall, Andrew and Roy Bettis; two sisters-in-law, Ethel Lee Lang and Lucille Norwood.

The service was Feb. 8 at McIntosh Church of God Pentecostal, with the Rev. Allen Cesar Abston officiating. Interment was in Big John Baptist Cemetery in Malcolm, with the final celebration entrusted to Jackson Memorial Funeral Home in Jackson.

Active pallbearers were her nephews; with honorary pallbearers her granddaughters and nieces.
