Adams

James Coleman “J.C.” Adams Sr. passed away Monday, March 31, 2014. Funeral services were Saturday, April 5 at the McIntosh Church of God Pentecostal with Bishop Willie D. Roberts officiating. Interment was in the Vaughn Cemetery in McIntosh

Mr. Adams was born Aug. 8, 1923 in McIntosh to the late Annis Adams and David Adams Sr. He professed Christ at an early age and was formerly a member of Lang’s Methodist Church, where he served on the Deacon’s Board. At the time of his death, he was a member of Pentecostal Church of God Deliverance of the Apostolic Faith in McIntosh.

Mr. Adams was a veteran of the United States Army; he worked for a number of years for Mobile River Sawmill and retired from Brown and Root Construction. In earlier years, he was an avid fisherman, hunter and farmer, and was very generous with the fruits of his labor.

He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Julia Sullivan Adams of McIntosh; his children, Gracie (Rev. Clifford) Adams of Columbus, Ga., Callie (Solomon, Sr.) Bartee, Jeffrey (Patricia) Adams Sr., Myron “Kent” Adams and Lyndon Adams, all of Mt. Vernon, N.Y., Benjamin (Ruby) Adams of Montgomery, Llewellyn “Wendy” (Annie) Adams, Marilyn “Sam” Adams and Donnie L. Adams, all of McIntosh; sisters-in-law, Kate Adams of McIntosh, Stella Williams of Mt. Vernon, Ala. and Ida Williams of Mt. Vernon, N.Y.; 33 grandchildren, including devoted grandchildren, Natasha Joseph, Valerie Adams Neal, Christopher Adams and Derrick Austin; 25 greatgrandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren; stepchildren, Earlean (Leroy) Matthews of Mt. Vernon, N.Y., Julia (Alan) Breech of Creola and Allean (Wendell) Larkin of Livingston, Ferdinand (Debra) Sullivan of McIntosh and Michael (Gloria) Sullivan of Mobile; his devoted caretakers, nieces Jackie Mitchell, Sandra Faye Reed, Theresa Reed and Wendy Williams; devoted niece and nephews, Jessie B. Wiley, Joseph Williams, Larry Williams and Edwin Williams; numerous other nieces, nephews and loved ones, and a devoted friend, Herman Ferrell.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving first wife and the devoted mother of his children, Lorene Williams Adams; daughter, Pamela Ann Adams; son, J.C. Adams Jr.; grandson, Taurus Jamaal Adams; sisters, Mary Bell (Robert) Pressley, Mary Jane (Ellis) Lang, Edna (Rev. Evye) Barnes and Ruby (Edward) Williams, Della Adams (Rev. James) Sullivan, Gracie Pearl Adams and Bertha ( Jessie) Williams; brothers, Dave (Annie) Adams Sr., Aaron (Beatrice) Adams Jr., Vincent (Edna) Adams and Gilmore Adams Sr.

Active pallbearers were Aaron Reed III, Jarvis Barnes, Paul Washington, Kamari Adams, Marquis Thomas and Trowskie Barnes. Flower bearers were Mr. Adams’ granddaughters.
