Alice Gibbs Holloway, 102, died April 5, 2015.

She was born May 10,

1912 in Vinegar Bend,


She was the daughter of the late Anthony and Olivia Gibbs. She confessed Christ at an early age, joining Little Bethel Baptist Church on Sept. 27, 1925. During her 90 years of membership, she served as musician, choir president (60 years), member of the missionary society, and a faithful and devoted member until her health failed.

She was a member of Margie Pride Chapter 628 Order of the Eastern Star. The Alice G. Holloway Institute of Christian Education was established in her honor on January 12, 2014 at Little Bethel Baptist. She was the oldest living member of Little Bethel Baptist.

She leaves to cherish her loving memories, two daughters, Marquida (Curtis) Bishop and Joyce Holloway; three sons, James ( Jane) Holloway, Willie “Bill” (Marie) Holloway, and Jessie (Lora) Holloway, all of Vinegar Bend; 21 grandchildren, 59 great-grandchildren, 17 great-great-grandchildren, one sister-in-law, Irene Gibbs of Mobile; one devoted nephew and niece, Michael (Mary Ann) Gibbs Jr., and Louise Gibbs Dixon, and a host of other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bro. Ray Oscar Holloway and three sons, Ray O., Robert, and Oscar Ray. She was the longest living of 11 children.

The service was April 11 at 11 a.m. at Little Bethel Baptist Church in Vinegar Bend. Burial was in the Little Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery.
